Forty-two
percent of AIDS cases in Philadelphia are related to sharing syringes
and other equipment for injecting drugs. Traditional means of HIV
prevention such as education and condom distribution are limited
in their capacity to reduce the spread of HIV among injection drug
users and their sexual partners because many are not ready to stop
using drugs. To address this issue, Prevention Point Philadelphia
(PPP) has created a broad spectrum of public health services for
injection drug users to mitigate their risk for HIV and other drug-related
harm.
